To Become a More Fluent Reader

       Reading skill is one of the most important skills for learning English. Students can get a great deal of knowledge by reading books. For example, when students want to write research paper, they need to read some sources for finding their support ideas. If the students can understand some sources, they will write out a good research paper because they do not have any strong points. This means there is a relationship between reading and writing, they can be separated. Therefore, reading occupies a crucial position in study.

       In reading these days, we found out several problems about reading. First, sometimes, we know the words’ meaning, but when the words in the sentences, we could not understand the whole sentences’ meaning. Second, some words have some different meanings; sometime, when we read a sentence, we did not which meaning of the word is suitable in this sentence. Next, after we read some article, we could not understand the whole context, such as “Krispy Kreme’s Unlikely Comeback”. Fourth, we did not some words’ meanings; we need to look up dictionary. Furthermore, our reading speed is slow; for some long articles, we need a long time to read them. In short, reading is very difficult for us; we need to find out some solutions to improve our reading skill.

       We think these ten ways can help students to be fluent reader. First, remembering more academic and useful words can make students to understand the article more clearly. Second, reading more articles can improve students’ read speed. Third, using English to English dictionary can let students know some words’ exact meanings. Fourth, to learn more for foreign culture can help students to understand the articles’ backgrounds; and know the background of an article is very helpful for students to understand it. Fifth, using some suitable reading skills can improve the efficiency of reading, such as skimming and scanning.  Sixth, cooperate with your partner if it is possible, cooperate can help reading fast and overcome the difficult point. Seventh, know the purpose of reading. If the article is for test, skim the article and find out answers of the questions; if the article is reading for fun, try to know and remember new words to expand vocabulary. Eighth, guess or ignore the unfamiliar words in exam reading. The unfamiliar words will slow down the reading speed, if it is impossible to guess the meaning of the word, just leave it and keep on the reading. Ninth, made high-frequency word list and read it every day. It can help improve reading fluency when these words appeared. Tenth, try to read an article or an essay in a limited time. It can help improve the fast reading ability. The limit time can be reduced when the reading is getting fluent.

          The most import three points for our group is build vocabulary, reading skills and reading purpose. The vocabulary can effectively improve our reading fluency. We can know the sentence or whole article’s meaning better if we knew more words. The reading skill is important because the right reading skill can help us read fast and catch the key point of the article. It is very useful during exam reading. The purpose is the basic point of reading an article. The reading skills we choose are based on our reading purpose. We must combine other skills together to reach the reading purpose.

      In Jemma Goudreau’s article, How To Be A Super-Achiever: The 10 Qualities That Matter, which states some successful people’s secrets of success. Camille Sweeney and Josh Gosfield interviewed thirty-six star performers, and got why these star performers could be success. Camille Sweeney and Josh Gosfield found these star performers had some same ways to success, then they list ten ways: focus on inspiration, intelligent adjustment, team learning, listening to some valuable information, good presentation, accurate prediction, managing emotions, strain capacity, practicing patience, and seeking joys.

     We like this article because this article introduces the qualities of success detailedly. Success can reflect the value of a person, so everyone wants to be successful. Through this article, it can make us to know how to be an achiever clearly. The key to success is not only work hard but also some wise adjustment, such as choose a useful way and our capacity for reason and analysis. We think five of these qualities are the most useful for us, they are intelligent adjustment, fostering a community, constantly evolving, practicing patience, and pursuing happiness

     Intelligent persistence, we think it means intelligent adjustment. When we want to do some activities, we should not be forward blindly. Sometimes, choose a suitable way is a wise choice; it can help us to increase efficiency and change a difficult work to an easy one. Over insisting and do not know adaptations is foolish. Appropriate adjust ourselves can make our lives more easily. Practice should be after thinking, choosing a good way and adjusting ourselves to adapt to the current situation can help us to success.

            Fostering a community, we think it means cooperate. An achiever cannot achieve success without a team.  An effective and reliable team will help a businessman became a super achiever. Also, cooperation not only means teamwork but also means set a good relationship with customers, media and investors. That will create a favorable environment for us. That is a necessary condition for us to achieve our success.

           Constantly evolving, it means never stop to follow-up the new situation. By follow-up the new situation, we could find out our weakness. We could discover the new market trend and the potential market in some new area. We must keep learning the latest business skills, upgrading the latest technology trend and adapting the newest economic environment. Otherwise, we will be left behind by the high speed development society. The core of constantly evolving is to collect the information. The right information can help us to do the right decision. The more information we got the more chance we have.

            Practicing patience, it means wait. Wait for the chance. As says going: more haste, less speed. Patient is an essential value for a super achiever. The market operation has its own pattern. We need patient to wait for the best time to take the shot. Losing patient will make us blind and make wrong decision. That may cause huge losses. Practicing patience should become an important part of us.

            Pursuing happiness, it means enjoy and passion. The work we love can arouse our passion. We will feel happy during process of success. That is the motivate power of us to keep working hard and the best quality for us to reach the success. Happiness can lead to success, and the success can gave us more happiness.

My mobile Phone- Peter

My mobile Phone

My mobile phone is Nokia Lumia 710. I am a loyal user of Nokia. I prefer Nokia phone because Nokia’s phone is solid—I sometime drop my cell on the floor, a solid phone won’t broke after it was dropped on the floor.

Lumia 710 is not the latest type of Nokia phones. It has Windows operation system. So it has some Microsoft’s software for users. It can connect Hotmail quickly, and I can check my e-mail box conveniently. The windows office software can help me to do many works. It includes Word, Power Point and Excel. For people who are familiar with those softs, it is quite user-friendly. As a smart phone, it also provides GPS service. I usually use this function to locate my position and find the way to my target when I was in Vancouver. I often use Wi-Fi and 3G to surf internet, not only to read some entertainment news but also check my mark and blog. Not like others, I hardly use my mobile phone to check new words because I have an electronic dictionary. I usually check new words on that. But, if the new words are not in my electronic dictionary, I will use my cell phone to Google them.

Portable electronic devices make our study and daily life more convenient. I hope more students could use those helpful devices to improve their learning efficiency.

            I am a user of Iphone and Ipad. I recommend these mobile devices to some other people because these products are very convenient. Iphone and Ipad almost can meet my needs of all the digital products. I often use Iphone to take some pictures and record some important information. Furthermore, the map in Iphone is very useful for me. When I just came to Canada, I often used Iphone’s map to find the bank, supermarket, and some other places. Ipad is used to watch movie or video, and sometimes is used as notebook, it is very convenient.

            Iphone or Ipad is a very good tool for me to learn English. I downloaded some studying software to my Iphone and Ipad, such as Longman Dictionary, Total Recall. One advantage of electronic dictionary is it can help me to find a strange word’s meaning instantly, so it improves the efficiency of my studying. Another advantage of electronic dictionary is it can record what words I have researched before, then I can review them anytime, it is good for me to learn some new words. My instructor, Les, recommend us to download Total Recall to our Iphone or Ipad. After I downloaded it, I found it was very useful. I can record some information expediently by Total Recall; especially, when I did the group discussion, Total Recall could help me to remember our group opinions clearly, and used the mind map to organize these ideas was very easy. Total Recall is definitely a perfect tool for recording and organizing information.

            Using modern electronic produce reasonably can improve our learning efficiency effectively. I hope that more and more students could learn how to use electronic produce for helping their learning.

What we learn from Lames Cameron

James Cameron, a great movie director, who is famous by “Tantalic” and “Avatar”. He is also the director of “Alien”, “Terminator” and “The Abyss”. How can he make such great movies? The answer is curious.

When James was a boy, he loves science fictions. Science fictions gave little James a lot of new thing to image. Also, James likes sea. He and his film production team got deep-sea diving certificate during the movie “The Abyss” was filming. After that, he put his attention on computer graphic. Then he made “Titanic” and “Avatar”. James always keeps his curious from one thing to another. That makes his brain full of imaginations. Curiousity makes him confidence. He knows what he wants and how to get it. James also knows how to respect his team. He knows he won’t successes without an outstanding team.

Just like James said “Curious is the most powerful thing you own. Don’t put limitations on you self. Other people will do that for you—don’t do it yourself.” Don’t be afraid of failure. Don’t stop our steps to forward. Keep curiosity in our heart. If we do so, we will successes.

            In Karen Walker’s presentation, she told us a true story about a marine peril. In this case, these crews who survived in shipwreck faced three choices: go to the nearest islands, go to Hawaii, and go south and back to South America by wind. However, each choice comes with a fearful consequence. Therefore, how to choose them will be an important problem. In telling the story, Karen Walker talks about how fear propels imagination, and fears make us to imagine the possible futures and how to cope with fears.

            Karen Walker provides out an important point about exploring ones fear, and where the fear comes from. Much of the trouble in the world comes from the avoidance of understanding ourselves and our fear. When fear comes to look into the future and making long term decisions, people have to make their fears transform into their concerns because if it remains people’s fear, people would take the wrong decisions as the sailors took in this example. Therefore, people need to conquer their fears and transform them into concerns, then make logical decisions.  People can let fear kill their minds, but people can also use fear to make more careful decisions about the future. The key point is to be able to keep a cool head and rationalize before making those careful decisions.

            Fear is not only our troubles but also is a chance for us to decide our future. For some pessimists, fear can make them to loss heart, even give up their future. However, for some optimists, fear is a kind of chance of success; fear can let them make a careful and logical plan for their future. Therefore, people should not to avoid fears; instead, people should try to face fears, and find out the solution for the fears. To be a success survivor in fears, and do not die in fears.
